Ivermectin binds selectively and with high affinity to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in invertebrate muscle mass and nerve cells in the microfilaria. This binding results in an increase in the permeability in the mobile membrane to chloride ions and ends in hyperpolarization of the mobile, bringing about paralysis and death with the parasit
